NASHIK: An interactive session on solid waste management was organised at St Francis High School, Ranenagar, on October 16, 2026, in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela and the need to promote effective waste management in Nashik city. Retired headmaster Sunil Patil, who is currently an invited representative of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), attended the programme as the guest speaker.
Patil provided students of Classes VI and VIII with detailed information, supported by practical demonstrations, on different types of waste, including wet, dry, solid and hazardous waste, and explained the methods of waste segregation. He also emphasised the importance of cleanliness and encouraged students to develop good sanitation habits from an early age. The session became interactive as students raised questions about waste management, including how plastic waste could be decomposed and what alternatives could be used in place of plastic. Patil addressed their queries and also explained the 7Rs of waste management, highlighting the importance of responsible waste disposal and sustainable practices.
Patil said that raising awareness about cleanliness and encouraging every student to adopt good hygiene and waste management practices could help create responsible citizens of tomorrow. He also suggested that the school organise similar interactive sessions on various subjects to broaden students’ knowledge and awareness.
The programme was conducted successfully with the support of school principal Manju Patil and department head Sheetal Chincholikar.
